Integrated Reinforced Vegetation System
GreenArmor™ System
Immediate Erosion Protection. Permanent Reinforced Vegetation.
Demanding slopes, channels, shorelines, and stormwater systems often
need more than temporary erosion control. The GreenArmor™ System
combines high-performance hydraulic erosion protection with permanent
turf reinforcement to create a durable vegetated system.
GreenArmor combines Flexterra® HP-FGM™ with Futerra® TRM or
Futerra® R45 HP-TRM to protect seed and soil during establishment
while creating permanent reinforcement within the mature root zone.
Where GreenArmor Fits
GreenArmor is used where project conditions require both immediate
surface protection and permanent vegetated reinforcement. It helps
bridge the gap between hydraulic erosion control and traditional
rock or concrete armor.
Two Technologies. One Reinforced Vegetation System.
Each GreenArmor component performs a distinct role. Flexterra protects
the surface and supports establishment, while Futerra provides the
permanent structural matrix.
Flexterra® HP-FGM™
Flexterra fills and covers the installed turf reinforcement mat,
bonds seed to soil, manages moisture, and protects the surface
against erosion while vegetation develops.
- Immediate surface protection
- Strong seed-to-soil contact
- Moisture management
- Supports rapid germination
Futerra® TRM or R45 HP-TRM
The turf reinforcement mat creates a permanent three-dimensional
framework that integrates with soil, roots, and vegetation over
the life of the project.
- Permanent root-zone reinforcement
- Supports hydraulic resistance
- Reinforces soil and vegetation
- Remains within the mature system
How the GreenArmor System Works
GreenArmor is installed as a coordinated system rather than a collection
of unrelated products. The reinforcement, hydraulic infill, seed,
amendments, soil preparation, anchoring, and vegetation all contribute
to the finished performance.
01
Prepare the Soil
Grade, smooth, test, and amend the soil to create a stable
growing environment beneath the reinforcement system.
02
Install Futerra TRM
Place and anchor the turf reinforcement mat with proper
trenches, overlaps, seams, transitions, and terminations.
03
Apply Flexterra HP-FGM
Hydraulically apply Flexterra into and over the reinforcement
to protect seed and soil while vegetation establishes.
04
Establish Reinforced Vegetation
Roots grow through the matrix and integrate with the permanent
reinforcement to create a mature vegetated system.
Why Integrated Performance Matters
Turf reinforcement alone does not eliminate the establishment period.
Hydraulic erosion control alone does not provide permanent structural
reinforcement. GreenArmor connects both performance phases.
01
Immediate Protection
Flexterra begins protecting seed and soil before vegetation
has developed enough root mass to resist erosion.
02
Rapid Establishment
The hydraulic growth medium helps retain moisture and
maintain close contact among seed, soil, and amendments.
03
Permanent Reinforcement
Futerra remains within the root zone and continues supporting
vegetation under repeated hydraulic loading.
04
Vegetated Finish
As vegetation matures, the reinforcement becomes integrated
within a natural-looking living surface.
System Configuration
GreenArmor can be configured with different Futerra reinforcement
products depending on slope geometry, hydraulic forces, tensile
requirements, vegetation goals, and the consequences of failure.
Futerra® TRM + Flexterra® HP-FGM™
A permanent reinforced vegetation system for slopes and channels
requiring more performance than hydraulic erosion control alone.
- Permanent three-dimensional reinforcement
- Immediate hydraulic erosion protection
- Supports rapid vegetation establishment
- Suitable for applicable slope and channel conditions
Futerra® R45 HP-TRM + Flexterra® HP-FGM™
A higher-strength configuration that incorporates an integrated
geogrid for demanding slopes, channels, levees, shorelines,
and specialized hydraulic applications.
- Integrated high-tenacity geogrid
- Higher tensile reinforcement
- Supports demanding hydraulic conditions
- Designed for specialized infrastructure applications
Installation Guidance
GreenArmor should be installed over a properly graded, prepared, and
amended soil surface. The selected Futerra TRM must maintain intimate
contact with the soil and be anchored according to the approved
project-specific installation details.
Anchor trenches, check slots, seams, overlaps, transitions, terminations,
and anchor spacing must be coordinated with slope geometry, soil
conditions, expected hydraulic loading, and manufacturer guidance.
Flexterra should then be hydraulically applied into and over the
reinforcement at the specified application rate using proper loading,
mixing, water volume, nozzle technique, and coverage procedures.
Important:
GreenArmor system selection, configuration, hydraulic performance,
anchoring, application rates, and installation details should be based
on project-specific engineering calculations, tested performance data,
soil conditions, manufacturer guidance, and approved specifications.
Permanent Vegetated Infrastructure
Designed for Demanding Slopes, Channels, and Water-Management Systems
GreenArmor is suited to projects where hydraulic exposure,
vegetation goals, environmental character, and permanent
reinforcement must be resolved through one coordinated system.
01
Stormwater Channels
Reinforce channel bottoms and side slopes exposed to routine
runoff and larger storm-event flows.
02
Drainage Swales
Protect vegetated conveyances where flow velocity and shear
stress may exceed natural turf capabilities.
03
Levees and Embankments
Reinforce vegetated surfaces where stability, erosion resistance,
and long-term hydraulic loading matter.
04
Canals and Shorelines
Protect water edges exposed to changing levels, flow, waves,
rainfall, and repeated wetting.
05
Spillways and Overflows
Reinforce surfaces exposed to intermittent higher-energy flows
during major storm events.
06
Critical Infrastructure
Add permanent vegetated erosion resistance around municipal,
transportation, utility, and environmental assets.
GreenArmor vs. Traditional Hard Armor
The correct solution depends on calculated hydraulic forces, allowable
deformation, maintenance, lifecycle requirements, environmental goals,
constructability, aesthetics, and the consequences of failure.
Design consideration:
GreenArmor is not a universal replacement for hard armor. Where hydraulic
forces exceed tested reinforced vegetation capabilities, a structural
armor system may still be required.
