Underground Stormwater Storage
AtlanCube®
Modular Underground Storage for Stormwater Detention, Retention, Reuse, and Infiltration
AtlanCube is a modular, underground geocellular tank system designed to manage stormwater beneath parking areas, landscaped spaces, loading areas, hardscape, and other usable portions of a site.
For Florida projects where stormwater storage must fit within a constrained footprint, AtlanCube provides a scalable way to meet water quantity objectives while preserving valuable surface area.
The Challenge: Managing More Stormwater Within Less Space
Commercial, municipal, residential, and industrial developments often need substantial stormwater storage while also preserving space for parking, buildings, landscaping, access, and other site functions.
Traditional storage approaches can require larger excavations, extensive aggregate, heavy lifting, or surface areas that could otherwise serve the property.
AtlanCube places stormwater storage below ground. Its modular configuration allows the system footprint and depth to be adapted to available space, required storage volume, site elevations, and the intended detention, retention, reuse, or infiltration function.
How AtlanCube Works
AtlanCube uses interconnected polypropylene modules to create an underground storage structure with a reported 97% void ratio. Water enters the system through the project’s drainage infrastructure and is temporarily stored, retained for reuse, or allowed to infiltrate according to the approved system design.
Modules can be arranged horizontally and stacked vertically to accommodate different storage-volume requirements and site constraints. Atlan reports configurations ranging from half-stack systems through triple-stack systems.
For retention and reuse applications requiring contained storage, the system can be enclosed in a welded and pressure-tested LLDPE liner.
- Modular footprint can respond to site constraints
- High void ratio maximizes internal storage space
- Multiple stack heights support design flexibility
- Optional watertight liner supports retention and reuse
- System can coordinate with upstream treatment devices
Key Benefits
Efficient Storage Volume
Atlan reports a 97% void ratio, allowing most of the installed system volume to function as stormwater storage.
1,000 Liters Per Module
Each full module provides 1,000 liters, or one cubic meter, of internal storage using two primary half-cube components.
Flexible Configuration
Modules can be arranged to fit different site footprints and stack heights, helping the system respond to storage requirements and available excavation depth.
Reduced Surface Footprint
Subsurface installation allows parking, landscaping, loading areas, and other site features to remain usable above the stormwater system.
Fewer Components
The large module volume and low component count can reduce handling, assembly steps, lifting requirements, and installation time.
Reduced Excavation
The system does not require gravel or rock within the storage area, helping reduce excavation volume and associated material requirements.
Trafficable Design
Atlan reports a Class D load rating for installations beneath trafficable areas. Final loading and cover requirements must be confirmed for each project.
Recycled Construction
AtlanCube is manufactured from long-lasting, 100% recycled polypropylene and is supported by an Environmental Product Declaration.

Configuration Options
AtlanCube can be configured using half-height and full-height modules. Published system heights range from approximately 1.41 feet for a half stack to 7.68 feet for a triple stack.
- Half Stack: 1.41-foot system height
- Single Stack: 2.56-foot system height
- Single and Half Stack: 3.97-foot system height
- Double Stack: 5.12-foot system height
- Double and Half Stack: 6.53-foot system height
- Triple Stack: 7.68-foot system height
Actual excavation depth, cover, loading, groundwater conditions, liner requirements, inlet and outlet elevations, and maintenance access must be established for the specific project.
Detention, Retention, Reuse, or Infiltration
The intended function determines how the AtlanCube system is configured.
Detention
Temporarily stores runoff and releases it at a controlled rate to help manage peak discharge.
Retention and Reuse
A watertight liner can contain captured water for irrigation, harvesting, reuse, or other approved purposes.
Infiltration
An open system configuration can allow stored runoff to infiltrate into suitable surrounding soils where site conditions and regulations permit.
Treatment Train
The storage system can be coordinated with pretreatment and water-quality devices based on sediment, debris, pollutant, and maintenance requirements.
Fit stormwater storage beneath the site.
AtlanCube can help project teams provide required storage volume while preserving more surface area for the development.
Preserve Usable Space Above the Stormwater System
An underground modular system allows required stormwater storage to be incorporated beneath parking areas, landscaped spaces, loading areas, and other portions of the development.
Challenge
The project needs substantial stormwater storage, but available land must also accommodate buildings, parking, access, landscaping, and other site functions.
Solution
Configure AtlanCube modules beneath an appropriate portion of the site, using the available footprint and depth to provide the required storage volume.
Project Value
The subsurface system supports stormwater-management objectives while preserving more usable surface area and allowing the configuration to respond to project-specific constraints.
RHM Value: Product Selection, Configuration Support, and Florida Project Coordination
Underground stormwater storage requires more than selecting a tank volume. The system must coordinate with site elevations, allowable discharge, groundwater, soil conditions, structural loading, pretreatment, maintenance access, installation sequencing, and the intended detention, retention, reuse, or infiltration function.
R.H. Moore helps project teams evaluate whether AtlanCube is appropriate for the application, identify the information needed for product selection, coordinate with the manufacturer, and support the project from initial review through installation.
Final storage volume, structural loading, minimum cover, hydraulic design, liner selection, infiltration suitability, and regulatory compliance must be confirmed by the project engineer and manufacturer.
