IAS Water Quality Skimmers
IAS Water Quality Skimmers are floating devices for erosion and sediment control applications, which release/drain the downstream surface water slowly from ponds, sediment traps or basins at a controlled flow rate. It skims clean water from the surface of sediment retention traps/basins where the water contains the least amount of suspended solids instead of draining from the bottom where sediment concentrations are at their highest, and sends it to a riser or the backside of a dam. Skimmer basins may be used in areas that are near high quality waters, buffer zones, environmentally sensitive areas, and/or sensitive watersheds, and where drainage areas are too large for a basin with a standard rock weir.
Existing skimmers on the market have a high failure rate for several reasons. They have moving parts which seize up in the mud, they stick to the mud at the bottom of the sediment trap, they clog due to debris on the screen, and they require frequent maintenance. The IAS Water Quality Skimmers are designed to address all of these problems and are virtually maintenance free because of few components and no moving parts to break or become clogged. They also avoid surface debris by skimming just under the surface of the water. IAS Water Quality Skimmers are lightweight, and sizes can be easily identified with color key system.
The IAS Water Quality Skimmers come in several sizes to accommodate a range of flows. In most cases the orifice size will be indicated on the Erosion/Sediment Control Plans. In other instances, the plans will indicate a volume to be drained in a specified time period. Refer to the installation instructions to determine the proper skimmer size needed.
IAS Water Quality Skimmers can be installed quickly and easily at a fraction of the cost of a typical riser pipe installation. They are available in a variety of sizes ranging from 1.5″ diameter to 8″ diameter and are capable of draining over 81,000 cu. ft. of water in 24 hours (8″ skimmer). The IAS Water Quality Skimmers are made from PVC fittings and schedule 40 solid core PVC barrel.
